Study Carrels

If you need a very quiet spot to work - consider the library's 1M level study carrels.  The library's second floor study room boasts six, extra-wide carrels with convenient power access, task lighting and a good Wi-Fi signal.  Hutch badge holders have 24-hour access to the room.  We do not take reservations - each carrel is first-come/first-served.  Eating and drinking is permitted.

Dissertation Binding, Digitization and Hosting

Digitization & Hosting

Please deposit a complete, final, signed copy of your dissertation with the library.  We will carefully digitize the dissertation and upload it into the Center's institutional repository (IR).  This will give your dissertation a permanent online home, searchable and discoverable via an international system of academic library repositories and federated search mechanisms.  If you would like an embargo placed on the release of your electronic dissertation, let us know and we can set that up in our repository.

Binding

Hutchinson Center students, faculty or staff who wish to have their dissertations and theses professionally bound are welcome to enlist the services of the Arnold Library. We are able to provide access to quality, professional binding through the same bindery that handles the Library’s journal collection.

The library sends quarterly shipments (in February, May, August, and November) to the Trappist Abbey Bookbindery in Oregon. The binding process takes approximately 4-6 weeks. We are not able to make special shipments or arrangements for dissertation binding; all dissertation binding will be included in our regular quarterly shipments.

  • Standard pricing is $23 per bound volume, plus the cost of return shipment. Standard handling includes binding, and standard spine lettering (author and title). Front cover stamping, labels, or special handwork are additional.
  • You are responsible for providing us with the number of personal copies you want to have bound, as well as for the cost of binding those copies.
  • In return for including your dissertation in our regular shipment, you must provide one copy for the cataloged library collection. The library will cover the cost of binding this one copy.

Print and complete the Dissertation Form to request these services.

Policies

Dissertation authors are required to submit a paper copy of their final, signed dissertation to the library's collection. The library additionally requests that authors grant the library permission to include an electronic copy of their dissertation in the institutional repository.  Internet release embargos are optional and at the author's request.
